Industrial Floor Preparation

Most floor failures trace back to one thing: poor preparation. Whether you're installing a screed, an epoxy system or any other finish, the surface underneath has to be sound, clean and properly profiled for the new floor to bond and last.

We prepare industrial floors so that what goes on top performs the way it should.

What floor preparation involves

  • Removing old coatings, paints, adhesives and surface contamination
  • Taking off weak surface layers and laitance
  • Profiling the surface so new screeds and resins bond properly
  • Opening up and repairing cracks, joints and damaged areas
  • Cleaning and priming ready for the next stage

We use diamond grinding and shot blasting, depending on the substrate and the flooring system being installed.

Why it matters

  • Stronger bond between substrate and new floor
  • Fewer problems with peeling, blistering or delamination
  • A longer-lasting floor and fewer costly repairs
  • A cleaner, safer site when dust is properly controlled

Prep and install, one team

Because we also lay screeds and resin floors, we know exactly what each system needs from the surface. You get one team responsible for the whole process, which means no gaps between trades.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a floor need preparing?

New screeds and resins only perform if they bond properly. Old coatings, contamination and weak surface layers stop that happening, which can lead to peeling, blistering and expensive repairs. Preparation gives the new floor a sound, clean surface to bond to.

How is the floor prepared?

We use diamond grinding and shot blasting, depending on the substrate and the flooring system being installed. Our equipment includes Hilti diamond grinders and an STR701 floor preparation machine.

Will floor preparation be dusty or noisy?

Preparation is noisy, and we can't promise it's completely dust-free. We use industrial vacuum extraction with our grinding equipment to help control dust, and we'll discuss how dust and noise are managed on your site when we survey it.

Can you prepare the floor and install the new one?

Yes. The same team prepares the floor and lays the screed or resin, so we know exactly what each system needs. See our epoxy resin flooring and self-levelling screed pages.

How long does preparation take?

It depends on the size of the area and the condition of the existing floor. We'll give you a realistic timescale at the survey.
